About Scott & The Mayor Memorial Golf Outing
Scott Poulos was a devoted husband, father, friend, business owner, and active member of the Naperville community. He earned the nickname “The Mayor” when he became the first HOA president of the Willow Ridge subdivision, where he and his family lived. “The Ridge” was truly lightning in a bottle—neighbors quickly became lifelong friends, and Scott’s warmth and leadership were at the heart of it.
In 2019, Scott was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, a disease often linked to chronic heartburn and acid reflux. Esophageal cancer is one of the lesser-known and underfunded cancers, yet its impact is growing. In fact, U.S. projections show that by 2040, the incidence of esophageal cancer in men is expected to rise by more than 13%.
To honor Scott’s memory, neighbor and close friend Mike Simeur founded the Mayor Memorial Golf Outing in 2020. What began as a way to celebrate Scott’s life—with laughter, golf, and friendship—has grown into an annual tradition dedicated to raising awareness and supporting vital esophageal cancer research.
